How to Make the Best Non-Toxic Hand Soap

Soap is an important part of our lives. Think about it; we have a different type of soap to clean our dishes, hands, bodies, hair, teeth, clothes, etc. Unfortunately, most of the soaps you can buy at the store are full of toxins and artificial fragrances. While we can take the low-tox lifestyle to extreme levels, I want to take some time to teach you how to make the best non-toxic hand soap that I use in my household.

Find Your Favorite Castile Soap

Castile soap is the most important part of this recipe. Basically, this formula is a soap concentrate, meaning a little goes a long way. In searching, you might notice that this type of soap is much more expensive than others, but I will tell you that a bottle lasts a while.

My favorite is Dr. Bronner’s, as these truly don’t contain any harmful chemicals and they come in different scents powered by essential oils. I love using the lavender, peppermint, and rose scents for different things throughout the house. You can use whatever brand you like, but take a quick glance at the ingredient list to ensure it’s safe and natural.

Use a Glass Foaming Dispenser

The dispenser is an important part of this recipe, as it needs to be a foaming soap dispenser to get the full effect. Additionally, I always recommend using glass when possible, as plastic leeches into liquids and essential oils can break it down. That said, get yourself a glass foaming dispenser for this mixture.

Choose an Essential Oil

Next, you can choose an essential oil to add to your soap. For instance, if you choose a lavender scented castile soap, you might want to add vanilla essential oil to create a nice fragrance. However, this is optional, and you don’t have to add anything additional. Personally, I love essential oils and I use them for just about everything.

Let’s Fill It!

Now that you have everything you need, it’s time to fill it! Fill about 1/4 of your dispenser with castile soap and add any essential oils. Now, you can fill the rest of the container with water. Put your dispenser lid back on it and enjoy your new non-toxic, cost-effective hand soap! When it gets low, just refill your existing dispenser with the same mixture!

Now that you know how to make the best non-toxic hand soap, you might be looking for other non-toxic products and new ways to get the toxins out of your house.
