If you’re anything like me, you’ve had your fair share of awful skin quality moments. Fortunately, I had minimal skin issues as a teenager; however, I’ve experienced excessive, painful breakouts over the past few years of my adult life. I thought I had to invest in expensive products for my skin, and I even thought about seeing a dermatologist to get a prescription for acne. After several months of intense breakouts, I finally found a routine that works for me! If you’re looking for an acne-prone-friendly, non-time-consuming course to take for your skin, follow along to learn more about the ultimate simple skincare routine that saved my face!
Choose a Natural Cleanser
Your cleanser is arguably the most important part of your skincare routine—it matters what you use. I have incredibly sensitive skin, and many cleansers I tried in the past caused major discomfort. I made it my mission this year to reduce the toxins in my home, including skincare and makeup products. As a result, I started using a gel cleanser by Honest Beauty. I have combination skin and absolutely love this cleanser. I haven’t had any issues with it—highly recommend!
Apply a Toner
Most people will tell you that a toner isn’t important, but I’m a firm believer that it makes a difference in skin quality. Although there are many different toning products on the market, I like to keep it simple. Personally, I prefer to use 100% witch hazel. It doesn’t smell the best, but it’s natural and effective—you get used to the smell after a while.
Find a Natural Moisturizer
Aside from your cleanser, your moisturizer is another crucial part of your skin regimen. I’ve gone through many different moisturizers over the past few years, but I never bought the same one twice until I found Honest Beauty’s Hydrogel Cream. I LOVE it! It doesn’t have any funky fragrances, and it’s the perfect texture and consistency. Every skin type has different needs, and finding a clean, safe moisturizer that works for you is the key to having happy skin!
Pro Tip
Mix a drop of high-quality, pure tea tree essential oil to your dollop of moisturizer to help fight acne and inflammation!
Exfoliate a Few Times Weekly
Exfoliating is one of my favorite steps in my skincare routine! Because our skin is constantly changing and healing, it also sheds. If you don’t deal with your dead skin, your face may appear dull and dry. On the other hand, exfoliating too frequently can damage your moisture barrier.
Many people claim that a chemical exfoliant is better than a physical exfoliant or vice versa, but ultimately, you have to find what works for you. My skin doesn’t respond well to chemical products, so I prefer physical exfoliants. Personally, I use baking soda! I keep a small container of it in my shower and gently rub a small amount into my face to get rid of the dead skin—it works SO good and my skin’s texture has been so much smoother.
Care for Your Whole Body
Our faces are usually the center of our skincare concerns, but the rest of our bodies need a little love, too! Just like our faces, the skin on our whole body changes, heals, and sheds; therefore, exfoliating is essential for smooth, healthy skin. Consider using an all-natural sugar scrub in the shower a few times weekly to help remove dead skin and keep your skin smooth and hydrated. Additionally, I like to use a natural, hydrating body lotion after every shower to restore moisture to my skin.
Properly caring for your skin is crucial to your overall health, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Some people will put you on a 12+ step regimen when you ask for skin advice—all of that really isn’t necessary. If you want to try something effective yet reasonable, give the ultimate simple skincare routine a whirl; it just might be the answer you’ve been searching for!

I’m not sure how you’re feeling, but I feel like winter has been lingering for much longer than 4 months.
