Convincing Reasons to Adopt a Dog

Adopting a dog isn’t for everyone, but it’s life changing for others. Dive into some convincing reasons to adopt a dog.

Even though you might think adopting a dog is too much for you to handle, there are so many positive ways a furry pal can impact your life. While different breeds best suit certain families, I bet there’s a perfect breed out there for you. If you’re looking for a sign to check out a local shelter, this is it! Explore a few convincing reasons to adopt a dog—you’ll find your new bestie when you welcome a fur baby into your family.

Dogs Can Boost Your Mood

I can tell you from personal experience that living with a dog can boost your mood in incredible ways. To be a little transparent, I’ve always struggled with seasonal depression. However, this past winter was my first after adopting my golden retriever, and he made a world of difference in my mood.

Most dogs are naturally positive spirits, and they can teach us how to be joyous. If you want to stabilize your mood, consider adopting a happy pupper!

They Deserve Love Too!

While many people like to buy their pets from a breeder to ensure they get exactly what they want, you should consider adopting from a shelter. The dogs that were abandoned, unwanted, sickly, etc., also deserve love—you can change their entire world!

My fur baby was unwanted and sick when we found him, but he was more than precious. My heart knew I needed to take him home immediately because he deserved all the love in the world.

Now, almost a year later, he’s happy, healthy, so loved, and has an incredible personality—all it takes is a little love and compassion.

Doggos Keep You Active

It’s no secret that staying active is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, but other things tend to get in the way for many people. That said, having a dog to care for helps keep you active. Most breeds need some level of daily physical activity, and you have to make sure it happens.

Making time to exercise with your dog daily is one of many helpful tips to be more intentional about your days. Whether you take them on a walk, play fetch in the yard, or have an intense game of tug of war, owning a dog can keep you in shape.

They Connect You to Others

If you struggle to make friends, adopting a cute dog is a great way to meet new people and break the ice. I’ve had more conversations with strangers since adopting my golden than I have in my entire life! He’s such a pretty boy that everyone wants to stop to say hi.

People love dogs, and having your own furry friend just might open some doors for you to meet other dog owners. If your pup gets along with someone else’s, don’t pass up that opportunity to plan puppy play dates.

These convincing reasons to adopt a dog come from my heart and personal experiences. Yes, being a dog parent changes your life in many ways, but there hasn’t been a single day that I regretted my decision to adopt Axel. I just had to learn to plan my life differently to accommodate his needs, but honestly, it almost always works out for the best.
